Frequently Asked Questions

What Is AllAmericanRoadTrips.Com?
- AllAmericanRoadTrips.Com is a company whose mission is to bring together persons of similar interest to explore America away from the interstate highways. Through our program we hope you will make lifelong friends and gain a greater appreciation for the broad geographic and social diversity of our country.

Is This Basically a Tour Group? - We are not a tour group in the sense that everyone gets on a bus and maintains the same schedule, everyone spending the same fifteen minutes at the same site. Our groups all furnish their own transportation and individuals determine their own daily schedules.

Then What Makes This a Group? - Two factors determine our groups. Each of our groups has an interest theme. This may be a hobby, an age group, a profession, or some similar area of mutual interest. Also, our groups stay each evening in the same city at pre-arranged locations.

So Do The Groups Travel Together? - Our trips are designed so that each group starts each day from the same location and ends each day at a different same location. Otherwise, individuals are free to rise early or sleep late; stay on the designated route or deviate from it; stop and explore where they wish or drive on through. We anticipate that new friendships will be formed and people will naturally gravitate towards smaller groups. We also encourage our road trippers to stay in touch with each other via cell phone, passing along tips about sites to see, good food, and other matters of mutual interest.

How Long Has AllAmericanRoadTrips.Com Been in Business? This is our first season. As with any new business, we are anxious to please. For the 2008 season we will use a single route, but it is our intent to expand each summer until we offer a variety of cross-country trips.

What is the Route for 2008? For 2008 the road trip will be the 3000+ mile long U.S. Highway 50. U.S. 50 begins in Ocean City, Maryland, a classic Atlantic resort community. Along the way U.S. 50 becomes Constitution Avenue in Washington, DC, going directly past the U.S. capital. The highway continues through Virginia and the mountains of West Viriginia. Crossing through Ohio, U.S. 50 becomes River Road in Cincinnati and then travels on through the small towns and farmland of Indiana and Illinois. U.S. 50 passes the St. Louis Arch as it bridges the Mississippi River and enters Missouri. The highway goes through Kansas City and then across the prairie of Kansas on its way to Dodge City. Colorado offers the beautiful Rockies and wonderful views. West of the Rockies, U.S. 50 becomes the “loneliest road in America” as it crosses the open spaces of Utah and then Nevada. Before entering California, U.S. 50 passes through Carson City and then Lake Tahoe. U.S. 50 officially ends in Sacramento, California, but our journey will continue to the Pacific at San Francisco.

How Long Are The Trips? All of our trips (other than bicycle trips) are three weeks in length. We will spend two nights each in Washington, but try to average 4-5 hours driving each day, leaving the rest of the time for exploration.

Does Anyone Accompany Each Trip - Yes, a coordinator will accompany each trip. This individual will stay in contact by cell phone and have emergency contact information for hospitals, automobile service, and other emergencies along the route. Our coordinator will check daily with each person to assist with any problems. Our coordinator will also travel ahead of the group to ensure that motel rooms are confrmed and ready for arrival.

How Much Does This Cost - The basic cost is $500. This covers one vehicle, participants rooming together. For our motorcycle trips, this would include two motorcycles, if the riders are rooming together.

What Do I Get for My Money? - The basic cost covers the trip coordinator, trip memorabilia ( one t-shirt, one cap, one license plate), discounts on motel bookings, and travel tips along the route. Travel tips will include written comments from on site individuals suggesting places to eat, places to see, and information which might not be available through other sources.

Are There Exta Charges? - There are no required extra charges, but we will have additional shirts, caps and license plates available for sale.

Are Discounts Available? There will be a 15 % discount given for the first ten paid bookings for each trip.

Which Motels Will Be Used? - Generally speaking we will be using discount chain motels in each town. Our goal is to keep the trip affordable. This stated, if individuals prefer to upgrade to a higher cost motel, we will assist with this. It is our desire to meet individual requests, where possible.

How Much Will Motels Cost? - We will negotiate a group rate with each of our motels and pass the savings on to you. Specific costs will be known no later than six weeks prior to trip departure.

How Do You Pay for Your Motels? - Trip participants may pay for their motels as they go, or may make a total payment to us and we will then pay for the motels in advance.

Will Participants Receive Information about Special Sites Along the Route - There are approximately 100 counties along this year’s route. Many of these counties have specific websites dedicated to tourism in their county. Participants will be provided with links to these sites. In addition, we will provide additional written tips based on comments from local people.

How Do We Sign Up? - Step one is to go to our Calendar where thirty-three proposed trips are listed. Trips listed in red are proposed. Trips listed in blue have the minimum ten bookings expressing interest, but do not have ten confirmed and paid. Trips listed in green have the required ten bookings and are definate trips. Step two is to contact us and let us know you are interested in a specific trip. (This does not obligate you.) When we get ten parties interested, we will alert you that there is sufficient interest. The first ten paying (for each trip) will receive a 15% discount. When ten have paid their fees, the trip is confirmed. Please see our sign-up form.

What if Ten Do Not Sign Up? - We reserve the right to cancel any trip with fewer than ten bookings. Any cancellations will be made no later than one month before the departure date and full refunds will be given.
